Coastguard Lodge Accessibility Statement

Introduction
This is an access statement for the Coastguard Lodge, a detached cottage at Ross Farm, Belford, Northumberland. NE70 7EN.
Built originally for HM Coastguard, it has been extended and modernised.

The nearest railway station is Berwick upon Tweed which is 15 miles by road. It is on the main east coast line. Taxis are available from Berwick and there is a limited bus service. The nearest village is Belford which is three miles by road.

The nearest airport is Newcastle upon Tyne which is 49 miles away by road. Car hire facilities are available at the airport.

Being set in a rural location and some miles from the nearest village/small town the Coastguard Lodge is not really suitable for guests without their own transport.

General
The cottage has three bedrooms. A double on the ground floor, a twin and single upstairs.

Arrival and Car Parking
Access is from the main A.1. road - two and a half miles away - a description of the route to Ross is enclosed with the booking confirmation. There is allocated parking for two cars beside the cottage. The car park is level with a hardcore surface. The cottage key is collected from the Payphone building - the position of this is shown on the plan sent with the arrival details and entry is by the keypad on the door - the code is enclosed with the booking confirmation. There is one step 5cm high + 5cm thresh to gain access. The door has accessible width of 78cm. The key is located on a board fixed to the wall, height 135cm, behind the inward opening door. Within the building there is a payphone on a worktop which is 95cm high.
Having collected the key, please continue along the private farm road on to the cottage - about 300 metres - on the way there is a road barrier for which the code is attached to the cottage key.

Entrance and Hallway
On arrival at the cottage there is a wicket gate, 107cm wide, with a 14cm step down onto a gravel path, 15 metres long, to the entrance door 79cm wide with a 14cm step up.. From the hall, with a laminate wooden style floor, there is a 78cm wide door to the kitchen/dining/sitting room, a 73cm wide door to the double bedroom, a 65cm wide door to the bathroom, and the stairs which are 84cm wide with 14 steps each with 18cm rise, and which curves round through 180 degrees.

Kitchen/Dining/Sitting Room
This has carpet flooring apart from the kitchen area which is wooden laminate style flooring. There is a sliding door 102cm wide with a thresh of 16cm and one step down of 18cm to the South facing garden.
Within the sitting area there is sofa and occasional furniture. There is a dining table with seating for 5. The kitchen offer a range of fitted units and appliances - the worktop is at a standard height of 89cm and there is ample circulation space.

Bedroom One
On the ground floor. Access from the hall. King size double bed which is 70cm high. There is 60cm free space on either side.

Bedroom Two
Upstairs with access from the landing. Door 72cm wide. Twin beds which are 64cm high.

Bedroom Three
Upstairs with access from the landing. Door 64cm wide. Single bed which is 64cm high.

Bathroom Downstairs
Access from the hall. Door 65cm wide. Shower over the bath.
Washbasin 79cm high. Wc 44cm high.

Bathroom Upstairs
Access from the landing. Door 65cm wide. Shower over the bath.
Washbasin 80cm high. Wc 45cm high.

Laundry
There are two washing machines and a tumble drier in a separate Laundry building adjacent the cottage, which is available for use by the two other cottages nearby. The freezer for Coastguard Lodge is in the Laundry building.

Garden
On its South side the cottage has its own secluded lawned garden with garden furniture.
